Position: *Marine Biologist*

Term of employment:  2 years with possibility of extension based on
available funding and performance
Summary

This is a full-time salaried position at Johnston Applied Marine Sciences
(JAMS), based in Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands.
JAMS is a growing NGO that focuses on the conservation and restoration of
coral reef ecosystems. We conduct independent, applied research and provide
scientific support services to local and federal governments and other NGOs
in the CNMI. We seek to hire a self-motivated individual who works well
independently and as part of a small team.



The Marine Biologist will have the opportunity to work on a variety of
exciting projects, but will primarily lead coral reef restoration
activities, including asexual and sexual coral propagation, outplanting,
monitoring, data management, and reporting.
Duties

·        Coordinate, manage, and implement coral reef restoration
activities, including maintenance of our ocean-based coral nursery,
propagation, outplanting, monitoring, and research.

·        Conduct surveys and assessments of coral reef ecosystems including
benthic and fish communities.

·        Data management and analysis

·        Write project reports, grants, and peer-reviewed scientific
journal articles

·        Develop research proposals and methodologies

·        Assist with education and outreach activities, including content
development for social media and other outlets

·        Coordinate and oversee activities of student interns and volunteers
Minimum Qualifications

·        Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Marine Biology
or related field

·        Strong critical thinking and analytical skills

·        Project management experience

·        Research experience in marine ecosystems

·        Demonstrated proficiency in scientific writing

·        Experience with data management and statistical analysis

·        High attention to detail

·        Willingness to occasionally work odd hours, including nights and
weekends

·        Excellent oral and written communication skills

·        SCUBA certification equivalent or greater to PADI Open Water, with
a minimum of 50 open water dives.
Preferred Qualifications

·        Experience with coral reef restoration practices

·        Experience with *in situ* coral and/or fish identification in the
Indo-Pacific strongly preferred

·        SCUBA certification equivalent or greater to PADI Dive Master.

·        Experience with photogrammetry and Metashape software

·        Proficiency in R software

·        Proficiency in GIS software and applications

·        Small boat handling and trailering experience, with preference for
MOCC or Coast Guard Licensed Captains


Compensation

Annual salary of $36,000 - $42,000 plus benefits, including paid holidays
and vacation. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
