The *Coral Reef Policy and Communications Coordinator* is a new Guam Coral
Reef Initiative position that will support efforts related to (1) coral
reef policies and regulations, (2) communications within and among
government agencies and other key stakeholder groups, and (3) public
outreach and education regarding coral reefs. The objectives of the Coral
Reef Policy and Communications Coordinator are to:


   - Enhance community engagement in science-based fisheries conservation
   through implementation of a sustainable seafood outreach program
   - Improve enforcement of Guam’s existing fishery policies and
   regulations through strengthened relationships with relevant government
   agencies and increased public reporting of violations
   - Develop recommendations for updates to existing policies and
   regulations for fishing and harvest of other marine species to ensure the
   long-term viability of Guam’s fishery resources
   - Increase support for and coordination of existing community-based
   programs and organizations that increase public awareness of the value of
   Guam’s marine ecosystems and foster stewardship of the island’s coral reefs

This is a 12-month full time position with an expected start date on or
before September 1, 2022. The Coral Reef Policy and Communications
Coordinator will be employed at the Bureau of Statistics and Plans as a
Biologist II (Grade M, Step 1). The position will be hired through normal
Government of Guam hiring practices as a limited term appointment under the
Government of Guam job classification as a Biologist II. This position is
100% federally-funded through the Department of the Interior - Office of
Insular Affairs’ Coral Reef and Natural Resources Initiative. Relocation
expenses are not provided.



*Required qualifications:*


   - Bachelor’s degree in biology; marine or environmental science, policy,
   or management; or a related field and at least one year of relevant
   experience in environmental policy, communications, and/or public outreach
   and education
   - Basic knowledge of coral reef ecology and marine conservation
   principles
   - Strong written and oral communication skills
   - Experience in public speaking, networking, leadership, and partnership
   building
   - Ability to work collaboratively in a team and with groups of all ages,
   cultures, and backgrounds
   - Flexibility, adaptability, creativity, and ability to overcome
   challenges
   - Graphic design skills and/or previous experience creating outreach and
   education materials
