MSC Cruises, the world's third largest and fastest growing cruise line is hiring for a Marine Biologist / Program Manager to manage the MSC Foundation activities on our private island resort, Ocean Cay, in the Bahamas.   The MSC Foundation was established in June 2018 to direct the environmental, humanitarian and development commitments of the MSC Group towards powerful initiatives for positive change.  Based in Geneva, the MSC Foundation encourages and implements the sustainable management and protection of ecosystems, supports vulnerable communities, promotes quality education and supports disaster struck populations.

This role will focus mainly on the Super Coral Program on Ocean Cay Marine Reserve , which is centered around increasing ecological resilience, conducting research and raising awareness.  The successful applicant can join us in the Bahamas from any part of the world, living on the island for 6 months then leaving for 2 months before returning for another 6 months to continue the efforts of the program.  It would suit a at least Masters educated Marine Biologist who is keen to live in the Bahamas and undertake a 14 month contract which could very well be extended.  A work permit will be provided along with excellent medical benefit, free accommodation, board, food & beverage etc.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Under the supervision of MSC Foundation (MSCF) Secretary General and based on the strategic advice provided by the MSC Foundation Advisory Board, the Marine Conservation Centre Manager will ensure the proper and timely implementation and monitoring of the Marine Conservation Centre (MCC) operations
Supervise the research and conservation activities of the Center, including ensuring the alignment of the research projects with program's priorities
Respond to the administrative and policy requirements for the implementation of the MSCF programs
Liaise with the Foundation's Secretariat to provide regular updates on operational strategic direction and advancement
Coordinate and facilitate land-based research and marine  conservation activities
Liaise with the partner universities to select and onboard graduate interns
Supervise, assist in the coordination and generally facilitate laboratory land-based research
Act as field supervisor of the marine biology graduate interns hired by partner universities to support the activities of the Program
Ensure the engagement of Ocean Cay visitors in the Marine Conservation Centre activities and  support awareness raising initiative.
Liaise with partner scientists and universities to coordinate coral restoration and research activities
Promote the program with potential and current donors, identifying and apply for new opportunities of collaboration and support
Support the organization of MSC Foundation meetings with partners related to the Marine Conservation Centre's Program's and related activities.

QUALIFICATIONS (skills, competencies, experience)

Minimum Master's degree in marine biology or related field
5-7 years of professional experience in conservation-related fields, including experience in the supervision of graduate students
Experience working with tourists is desirable
Background in program management and M&E in related fields, including budget development and management, elaboration of reports in a regular basis, etc.
Experience with aquarium-based research would be a plus
Strong understanding of bio-lab operations and processes with regards to coral research
Solid understanding of ecotourism principles and management
Strong capacity to develop and manage a program implementation plan and ensure its timely execution
Minimum Advanced PADI or equivalent diver's license
Native proficiency in English is required
