The Coral Program at NOAA’s AOML in Miami (
https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/coral-reef-ecosystems/), part of AOML's Ocean
Chemistry and Ecosystems Division (OCED -
https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/ocean-chemistry-ecosystems-division/) and the
University of Miami's Cooperative Institute for Marine & Atmospheric
Studies (CIMAS - *https://cimas.earth.miami.edu/
<https://cimas.earth.miami.edu/>*), is accepting applications
for a one-year internship position, offered annually to a highly motivated
recent college graduate interested in gaining experience in the fields
of coral reef ecology and ocean acidification research.

The Coral Program is actively researching how climate change and ocean
acidification will be, and already are, affecting the construction
(coral growth, calcification) and breakdown (bioerosion, dissolution)
of coral reef ecosystems, as well as the associated ramifications these
processes have for ecosystem function. The successful applicant will work
with a diverse team of scientists, postdocs, and students at NOAA and UM
laboratories in Miami, Florida.

During the year, the intern will gain extensive hands-on experience with
laboratory and field research including, but not limited to, experiments
using
cutting edge technology and an ‘omics approach (
https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/omics/#coralomics) conducted in the CIMAS/AOML
Experimental Reef Lab (ERL -
https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/experimental-reef-lab/) ) to inform and enhance
coral restoration efforts (

https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/coral-restoration-and-resilience/), involvement
in the National Coral Reef
Monitoring Plan (NCRMP - https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/ncrmp/), analysis of
carbonate chemistry for ocean acidification research, SCUBA diving and
fieldwork (
https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/news/monitoring-reefs-in-the-dry-tortugas/), CT
scanning of coral (
https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/news/coral-growth-in-flower-garden-banks-approaches-threshold/)
and reef frameworks, as well as 3D scanning
and printing for scientific instrument development (
https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/advanced-manufacturing-lab/).

The position will be advised by Dr. Ian Enochs and at the conclusion of the
year-long internship, the successful applicant will be expected to present
a talk on their work. Current AAUS authorization is required for
participation in scuba diving operations. The position will be paid hourly,
totaling roughly $33k over the year.

Please send a CV and letter of interest to both *nicole.besemer at noaa.gov
<nicole.besemer at noaa.gov>* and michael.studivan at noaa.gov with
"Coral Program internship application" in the subject line. Applications
must be received by December 7th, 2022.

Thank you for your time and interest.
