The Symbiommunity Lab (https://fuesslab.wp.txstate.edu; PI: Lauren E. Fuess), in the Department of Biology at Texas State University seeks to recruit a postdoctoral research associate for an NSF-funded position lasting up to 2 years. The selected candidate will support planning for a new research center in global change bioinformatics at TXST, a Hispanic Serving Institution, as part of an NSF CREST Center Planning Grant.

Tasks: The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for grant planning and proposal preparation-associated tasks including, but not limited to: planning of research approaches, training of students and faculty in bioinformatic approaches, curation of datasets, planning of outreach and assessment plans, establishment of internal and external collaborations, etc. The postdoc will primarily be based in the Symbiommunity Lab (ecological/evolutionary immunology of cnidarians; symbiosis biology). However, the role will also involve significant collaboration with diverse researchers across TXST who are applying bioinformatic approaches to study climate change.

Duration: The postdoc position is available for up to two years, subject to annual performance review. This duration could be extended contingent upon funding. Start date is October 1, 2023, with limited flexibility.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in ecology, global change biology, bioinformatics, or a related field. Expertise analyzing large biological datasets is essential. Prior experience or interest in preparation of outreach and educational programs (CURES, etc) is preferred.

Applications should be submitted electronically via email in a single pdf containing the following elements:

1) A cover letter summarizing the applicants interests in the proposed center, their potential contributions to the planning process, and how the position aligns with their career trajectory

2) A copy of up to two publications/submitted manuscripts, or other evidence of skills in biological data analysis

3) A list of up to three references with contact information. We will contact references directly during the candidate selection process.

Please email this application to Dr. Lauren Fuess (lfuess at txstate.edu). Applications received by September 15th, 2023 will receive first consideration, though review will continue until the position is filled. Questions and inquires can be directed to Dr. Lauren Fuess.
