Ignacio,

Thanks for raising the alarm on this emerging and spreading threat. This
is truly a horrific tragedy.

My question is what symbionts do these soft corals carry that are not
native to the Caribbean?
With the introduction of any coral species between oceans, an entire
holobiont is introduced!
Also what eats it here in the Pacific, as it is never invasive or even
dominant anywhere.

How can the marine aquarium industry be better controlled to prevent these
sorts of horrific introductions?
The freedoms of the rich have resulted in horrific costs to the environment
and to local fishing communities.
Ultimately it is governments who are responsible for this free-for-all that
is happening.
A failure has happened and continues to happen.

And then there is the ballast water and shipping that may pose an even
greater danger.
The day that SCTLD arrives in Hawaii or elsewhere in the Pacific will be a
very dark day.
