Position Title: Research Associate

Location: Coral Reef Restoration, Assessment and Monitoring Lab (CRRAM), Nova Southeastern University (NSU), Ft. Lauderdale FL USA

Position summary
The NSU CRRAM lab is seeking a Research Associate to assist with the management of grant-funded research projects, collaborations, and educational and outreach activities. The lab's research interests have strong resource management goals, and the lab collaborates frequently with universities, NGOs, and resource management agencies. The lab investigates the population ecology of several US ESA listed stony coral species, manages a stony coral nursery, conducts coral outplanting activities, and manages several long-term coral reef monitoring programs within the Southeast Florida Coral Reef Ecosystem Conservation Area. The lab also has several international research collaborations. Our team conducts fieldwork several days a week, year-round. Workdays not in the field are spent on campus in the lab.

This is a full-time appointment and includes a competitive benefits package. The normal NSU Monday-Friday work week is 37.5 hours; however, evenings, weekends, and multi-day trips will be required at times. Final position duties and salary will be dependent upon the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Primary Duties
The Research Associate will be primarily responsible for assisting with day-to-day lab management and the management of several long-term coral reef monitoring projects. Primary duties will include:
1. Permit and grant writing support
2. Communicating with funding agencies
3. Coordinating collaborations with internal and external partners
4. Planning and participation in workshops, meetings, and outreach activities
5. Fieldwork planning
6. Fieldwork and data collection
7. Data management and analysis
8. Report writing
9. Graduate student support

The CRRAM lab also has active coral reef restoration projects, and the Research Associate will be expected to assist with these efforts as needed.

Minimum Qualifications or Requirements
1. M.S degree in the marine or biological sciences from an accredited college or university
2. Ability to immediately work legally in the US
3. Ability to obtain a state of Florida or US Coast Guard approved boater safety certification
4. Ability to obtain Scientific Diver status in the NSU Scientific Diving Program (NSU is an organizational member of AAUS)

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Experience conducting field-based (research scuba diving) coral reef research
2. Experience managing field work
3. Ability to work outdoors, for long hours, in a tropical climate
4. Experience managing large data sets
5. Experience writing peer-reviewed publications and/or technical reports
6. Experience working in R and GIS
7. Ability to present and discuss research and programmatic goals with members of the public, potential donors, peer scientists, and local resource managers
