Dear Coral List,

I am writing to inform you of an exciting opportunity led by the National
Geographic Society <https://www.nationalgeographic.org/society/>. In
association with the 2023 Asia-Pacific Coral Reef Symposium
<https://www.apcrs2023.org/Workshops.html>, the Society will conduct a
half-day grant writing workshop on June 21. The workshop is intended to
primarily support *early-career scholars and conservation professionals*
who are from and conducting research and/or conservation in Asia and/or the
Pacific region, and whose work fits into our Ocean Focus Area
<https://www.nationalgeographic.org/society/our-focus/ocean/>. Participants
will receive information about developing a successful National Geographic
Society grant application and will have the opportunity to practice these
skills in an interactive, collaborative environment. The in-person training
will also be supplemented with virtual activities before the workshop.

We kindly invite those interested to apply to participate in the grant
writing workshop. The application can be accessed and completed through this
link.

It
must be completed in English. Please note that the workshop and
pre-workshop activities will also be led in English, but we only expect a
basic understanding of English. We understand that English is not the first
language for many potential applicants and aim to deliver this workshop in
a manner that allows participants with different English language levels to
participate.

We will prioritize applicants who are:

   -

Early-career scholars and conservation professionals who are from South
or Southeast Asia, or the Pacific. Individuals who come from historically
and currently underrepresented and/or underserved populations in Asia and
the Pacific will also be prioritized.
   -

Leading or participating in research or conservation with goals to
further the understanding, management, conservation, and/or restoration
of marine ecosystems, rather than focusing on single-species research or
conservation outcomes. Please note we will also prioritize applications
from those working on these aims through the use of non-Western Science
approaches/methods, such as through the use of traditional knowledge
   systems.
   -

Aiming to achieve local, regional, and/or global impact by prioritizing
leadership by, and/or partnership with, local communities, stakeholders,
   and organizations.

We will prioritize applications submitted before March 26, 2023, 12:00 AM
HKT (Hong Kong Time). We aim to inform applicants on the status of their
application by April 14, 2023.

The National Geographic Society will invite successful pre-applicants to
submit a full grant application and attend the workshop. More details and
materials about the workshop will be available for invitees only. Please
note that to participate in the workshop it is required that participants
submit a full grant application and participate in the virtual activities.

While the workshop is an invitation-only event, participation in the
workshop is not required to apply for a National Geographic Society grant.
National Geographic Society grant applications may be submitted at any time
through the National Geographic Society’s grant portal. For more
information about our Grants Program, please visit our grants program
website <https://www.nationalgeographic.org/society/grants-and-investments/>.
If you have any questions about the workshop and process, please reach out
to me.

Best Regards,
