Coastal Health Projects Coordinator

To support its sustainability initiatives, Iberostar is seeking a Coastal
Health Projects Coordinator for Jamaica, that will help lead and achieve
strategy goals for a variety of
coastal and marine projects. These project goals will be achieved through
science based protection, restoration and management of species and
ecosystems in and around the
properties of Iberostar in Rose Hall, St. James and at other selected sites
in Jamaica. The position seeks a candidate with vast experience in project
management and
foundational understanding of coastal and marine ecology, but with the
leadership skills and management ability to apply science to transform
practices. Applicants with experience working with communities are

Role and Responsibilities of the position:
1. Implement, manage, monitor and evaluate Coastal Health Projects in
Jamaica
2. In collaboration with local actors and partners, support the
implementation of Iberostar’s restoration and protection projects that can
include: Corals, Seagrass,
mangroves, other coastal vegetation, fish/shellfish/invertebrates, water
and beach quality.
3. Support initiatives that help improve the capacity and livelihoods of
local communities (with special emphasis on fishing communities).
4. Ensure the Sanctuary Manager and Board have the resources needed for the
operation of the Grange Pen Fish Sanctuary.
5. Help supervise consultants and partners, in coordination with the
Coastal Health Manager and Strategy Directors, providing guidance,
monitoring progress, reviewing deliverables and making recommendations.
6. Collect high quality and consistent data on-shore, in-water and on boats
as needed.
7. Identify and evaluate carbon sequestration opportunities, and if
implemented coordinate or supervise carbon sequestration projects in
Jamaica.
8. Support the Seafood Program.
9. And any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time

Job Requirements
1. Bachelors or higher in conservation sciences, natural resources,
biology, ecology, or marine sciences, fisheries.
2. At least 3 years of experience in coordinating coastal environmental
projects.
3. Knowledge and practical experience with coastal ecosystems in Jamaica.
4. Knowledge in sampling and surveying with experience in data collection
and interpretation.
5. Experience with multi stakeholder engagements, government agencies
interactions and community engagement a plus..
6. Ability to travel and work flexible hours.
7. Able to lift up to 50lbs, stand, walk, or sit for prolonged periods of
time in natural, coastal, restricted, wet, or hot and humid environments.

Skill-set Requirements
1. High skill-level in Microsoft office and Google.
2. A team player, with strengths in maintaining positive relationships with
team members.
3. Excellent interpersonal skills, creating and promoting positive and
productive working environments with internal and external partners.
4. Ability to transfer knowledge and provide guidance.
5. Independent worker with initiative and ability to problem solve.
Self-driven and be able to complete project deliverables on schedule.
6. Minimum of Advanced Open Water certification with at least 25 verifiable
dives and be able to successfully complete a dive refresher course within
30 days after employment.
7. Able to dive in a wide range of environmental settings including windy,
rainy conditions with light to moderate current and visibility on
back-to-back or repetitivedays.
8. Conflict resolution and mitigation experience or training will be
considered a plus.
9. English language fluency with Spanish proficiency.
10. Experience supervising others.

1. Experience working with fishing communities
2. Experience in community conflict resolution and mitigation

3. Able to work in a friendly manner with a diverse set of people, culture,
and social differences.
4. First Aid, CPR, AED, O2 valid certifications.
5. Able to read and understand complex information and communicate that
information according to the target audience.
6. Experience working in fishing boats, able to be out at sea or near the
shore for prolonged periods.

Other important job information
The selected candidate will be in constant communication with other Coastal
Health and Iberostar staff, partners, government representatives and
therefore, will be expected to
speak in public in a variety of settings and conditions.

Title of the position: Coastal Health Projects Coordinator.
Reports to: Victor Galvan, Coastal Health Manager for Aruba, Jamaica and
the Dominican Republic.
Time commitment: This is a full-time position (40 hours /week exclusive of
meal breaks) with a variable but flexible schedule.
Location: The position will be based at the Iberostar Rose Hall complex in
St. James Parish Jamaica. However, the nature of the work might require the
coordinator to occasionally travel for work in other areas of the country.
Salary: Salary based on education level and experience.
