JOB OPPORTUNITY 1: FWC Artificial Reef Program, Biological Scientist IV



Position Title: Biological Scientist IV

Salary: $50,000 - $52,000 Annually

Summary:


The Division of Marine Fisheries Management Artificial Reef Program at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is currently seeking a Biological Scientist IV. In this role, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with local coastal governments, state universities, and stakeholders from across Florida to oversee various artificial reef construction and monitoring projects. These projects encompass a wide range, from small inshore reef deployments to the management of major projects like the 30,800-ton Oriskany Reef.

Applicants with an interest in fisheries biology and a strong skillset in grant administration, project management, and scientific diving are encouraged to apply. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing both state and federal grants and contracts dedicated to artificial reef development and research. Duties will include compiling, interpreting, and analyzing biological data, conducting assessments of artificial reef habitats, and preparing comprehensive technical reports.

This is a full-time position that offers a competitive benefits package. The standard FWC Monday-Friday work week is 40 hours, with optional telework up to 2-days per week. Occasional evening commitments, weekends, and multi-day trips may be necessary. Prospective applicants should hold a valid SCUBA certification, accompanied by a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree and two years of pertinent experience. Four years of directly related professional experience may substitute for the required Bachelor of Science degree.

JOB OPPORTUNITY 2: Monroe County, Florida Artificial Reef Program Director


Position Title: Director

Salary: $102,718.96 - $164,350.33 Annually

Location: Monroe County, Florida



Position Summary:



The primary function of this position is to provide coordination and technical expertise for planning and construction of artificial reefs and habitat restoration projects. Program coordination includes reef conservation, artificial reef management, and advancement in the County's environmental protection, climate resilience, and sustainability initiatives. Public outreach for the artificial reef program and administrative duties includes preparing permit applications, project management, and monitoring grants and contracts.



Education and Experience Required:



Bachelor's degree required. Master's preferred. Major(s) preferred: Marine Biology, Environmental Studies, Planning or Coastal Engineering, or related field. 3 years minimum of prior related work experience. Additional applicable prior work experience and education may substitute for other requirements.



Special Qualifications:



Open water Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (SCUBA) Diving Certification and experience or Advanced Open Water SCUBA certification or higher preferred. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) certification preferred.
